Strike a pose

Strike a pose

A chestnut-coloured Horse strikes a pose before the camera, even to the point of managing to toss its ruffled, windswept mane into a cool-looking hairstyle!

Beauty and the Bokeh

Pink Mallow

This rain-speckled Pink Mallow’s open petals and cone-closed flower are emphasised vividly before a brown check-board background: the title ‘Beauty and the Bokeh’ has a nice ring to it, don’t you think…?

In need of a clean

In need of a clean

I do believe this sign is stating something along the lines of ‘No Loading at Any Time’, but if you were caught in the act, I’m sure any Traffic Warden would have a hard time proving your wrongdoing!

*Shot on a Canon 600d 18mp dSLR using a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS mkll lens with settings at ISO-200, aperture at f/5, centre weighted metering mode and an exposure time of 1/800 seconds*

… and good morning 2013!

Good morning, 2013!

So here’s to keeping all our fingers’ crossed in the hope we all stay a little drier over the coming 365 days…

Goodbye 2012…

Goodbye 2012

… and good bloody riddance, consigned to the graveyard of history as probably the UK’s wettest twelve months on record yet!

*Shot on a Canon 350d 8.2mp dSLR using a Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM lens set at ISO-100, aperture at f/4, pattern metering mode and an exposure time of 1/1000 seconds*

Rapes Highway signpost

The signpost

A signpost stands at the side of ‘Rapes Highway’ on Denshaw moor – an ancient packhorse trail that connected Lancashire and Yorkshire for centuries – pointing out the directions for anyone hardy enough to be trekking across this section of the Pennines. Off into the distance lies Huddersfield road (the A640) and Dowry reservoir in Denshaw; behind the camera is Readycon Dean reservoir and a little further on finds Ripponden road (the A672); finally, the right-hand signpost points onto the Pennine Bridleway and eventually leads to the isolated Crook Gate reservoir.

*Shot on a Canon 600d 18mp dSLR using a Sigma 18-125mm DC lens with settings at ISO-200, aperture at f/7.1, pattern metering mode and an exposure time of 1/125 seconds*

Robin in bare branches

Robin in bare branches

A red-breasted Robin perches within the bare framework of an Ash tree’s branches, all Winter stripped and wearing their black ‘Bishop’s Mitre’ bud caps.

*Shot on a Canon 350d 8.2mp dSLR using a Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lens set at ISO-200, aperture at f/16, pattern metering mode and an exposure time of 1/200 seconds*

Bell 206B-3 Jet Ranger

Bell 206B-3 Jet Ranger lll G-BXDS

A quick snap taken back in June, 2010 of a Bell 206B-3 Jet Ranger helicopter flying past overhead, its black, silver and white finish contrasting against the blue sky behind the spinning rotors. On the helicopter’s tail section is stencilled ‘G-BXDS’, a denotion that tells us the aircraft was built in 1979, is currently based at Halfpenny Green Airport in Wolverhampton, UK and is used primarily as a transportation aerial vehicle through the company, Aerospeed Ltd.

(If any of the above is wrong, please feel free to drop me a message telling me so!)

*Shot on a Canon 350d 8.2mp dSLR using a Sigma 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DG macro lens set at ISO-200, aperture at f/11, pattern metering mode and an exposure time of 1/1000 seconds*

Blue within the grey

Blue within the grey

Through a tattered hole, torn between bruised and bustled clouds, can be seen the merest glimpse of a celestial sky; it is the ‘blue within the grey’ we all wish to see return in earnest, once the Heavens openly begin to weep and their tumultuous bellowing thunders out…

*Shot on a Canon 350d 8.2mp dSLR using a Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM lens set at ISO-200, aperture at f/20, pattern metering mode and an exposure time of 1/400 seconds*

Boxing Day blues

Boxing Day blues

Just a few hours after Christmas Day has ended and all the new pressies from Santa’s sack have been played with and adopted with relish, so begins the exodus of the great unwanted and readily replaceable. Cast aside without a care in the world, discarded consumer goods from the previous year (and long before) can be found colourfully littering every available street corner, overgrown disused space and bin-lined street backings, not only across the UK but everywhere that Christianity has influenced society…

Now, how about a round of applause for the genius of Capitalism for taking advantage of our inherent belief system and making us spend all our money, eh?!

*Shot on a Canon 600d 18mp dSLR using a Sigma 18-125mm DC lens with settings at ISO-400, aperture at f/6.3, centre weighted metering mode and an exposure time of 1/60 seconds*
