We’re nearly at Christmas Day and yet the rain still falls across the UK, seemingly from an inexhaustible supply that’s been affecting all of us in Britain for much of 2012. However, some of us have suffered a lot more than most, with home properties and work premises flooded not just once or twice but completely soaked throughout numerous times this year; so it’s fingers crossed for drier 2013 and a little less ‘water falling from the sky’…

Coils of barbed and straight wires, discarded in looped reams just awaiting to be reclaimed by Nature and the Elements. (That is until they’re ripped up from the overgrown grasses and cleaned off because the Farmer needs to fix a fence come the Springtime!)

… we may ever see, if we believe that the world is going to end on the 21st of December, 2012 as predicted by the Maya and their final 13th Baktun, bringing a close to the Mayan 5,124 year Long Count Calendar and with its closure, the arrival of the supposed Apocalypse…
(It’s 7.30pm as i write this and still life goes on, so fingers crossed eh?!)

A Monkey Puzzle tree looking bare and in need of some Christmas decorations at this time of year, just to add some festive spirit to its evergreen, spiky leaves – I ask you, has there ever been a more tempting tree top designed to accept a sparkling Star or a lofty Angel balancing on its apex?!
*Shot on a Canon 350d 8.2mp dSLR using a Sigma 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DG macro lens set at ISO-100, aperture at f/5.6, pattern metering mode and an exposure time of 1/800 seconds*
A wide-angle shot taken from a field high up next to the Thornham Old road at the rear of Tandle Hills, Royton looking across the rooftops of houses situated in Thornham and High Crompton. A feral Pigeon takes some time out from the usual Pigeon-related activities of strutting, cooing and scratting to indulge in a spot of sunbathing on a bed of fluffed green grass. Although most of the feathers on this bird are a combination of greys, slate and charcoals, it is the light sparkling on the Pigeon’s cinnabar eye and puffed iridescent breast that adds just enough colour to make us appreciate such a common bird’s beauty.
*Shot using a Panasonic Lumix FZ18 8MP bridge camera with settings at ISO-100, lens set at 83mm, aperture at f/5, spot metering mode and an exposure time of 1/500 seconds*
