Little Egret

A Little Egret (Egretta Garzetta) delicately trots its yellow-tipped feet across the fast flowing waters of the river Lune at Halton in Lancaster. Once a rare and exotic visitor to the UK from sunnier climates, there are now an estimated 700-800 breeding pairs of this spectacular white Heron in Great Britain and they definitely seem to be thriving around the lower reaches of the Lune, especially near Condor Green’s estuary section.

Crook O’Lune

A view of Crook O’Lune on the river Lune at Caton in Lancaster within Lancashire, looking towards Aughton woods placed central in this picture, with the towering mountain Ingleborough peeking its crest above the trees on the left-side of the horizon, way off  across the border in Yorkshire.

Twin rotor

A Boeing CH-47 Chinook twin rotor helicopter flying low over my house: with the noise it made, there’s no way you could miss this flying machine!

Half-an-ear

This Brown Hare has suffered an injury in the past, which has resulted in the loss of half of its right-hand ear, although any hinderance to the mammal’s speed is not apparent!

Orange & pink

Two aluminium beer barrels awaiting collection – one banded in orange paint, the other lined with pink paint – now empty and drained after the weekend’s scorching Summer weather in the UK.

Jump for joy

A Roe Deer sprints across moorland on the top of Clougha Pike in Lancaster, UK in the hope of disappearing before I can see her; unfortunately for the Deer, I had a camera and she is now frozen in mid-flight within a photo and uploaded onto the internet!

Weather-worn

The silhouetted remnants of a tree, now brittle and dead, its limbs and boughs sheared away with Time’s decay and its armoured visage now dried and wizened by the Seasons’ affective rotation…

Metallic Doppelganger

I had to do a double-take at this Heron as I walked past. It stood completely still next to a small garden pond, with no indication of movement even though I was barely three feet away, and I then quickly realised it was an ingenious garden sculpture of the real wading bird; a metallic Doppelganger to keep the real Herons’ away from the fish!

Breaking cover

A silhouetted black Grouse breaks cover from the long grass, sounding its rasping alert call as the game bird panic flaps itself away.
