The forgotten valley

Lying abandoned in a forgotten valley near Denshaw, an old lodge stands alone. Probably once used by the quarry men who hewn the limestone from the surrounding hills to line the reservoirs that still supply Manchester with water – indeed, a jumble of shaped stones lie scattered to one side – the shell of the building now stands crumbling in the Pennines weather, helped along by Father Time’s revolving hands.
