Duelling banjos

This picture looks like it could have been taken directly from John Boorman’s seminal movie, Deliverance (1972) a tale of natural beauty, canoes following rivers, personal violation and unavoidable murder. However, this is actually being played out in 2017 on Lancaster canal, so no chance of running into any homicidal Hillbillies from the ‘deep South’ looking for retribution… well hopefully not anyway!

Little red boat

A little red boat leans aground on the damp sand as the tide retreats from Morecambe Bay: on the horizon to the left are the Rydal Mountains; on the opposite bank Grange-over-Sands sprawls centrally; and over to the right the Old Man of Coniston can be seen, all in the shadows cast from the marshmallow-fluffed clouds drifting overhead…

Kaleidoscope

A close-up shot of a children’s playground swing takes on a new dimension, as your eyes try to focus on the chrome and black construction of the seat against the red background of the anti-slip flooring…

Two Dandelions sway in tandem, their powder-puff balls of sow-thistle seeds now virtually dispersed on the passing breeze, ready to settle elsewhere and start the whole cycle of seasonal rebirth again once the next year’s Spring arrives…

The Comma

A Comma Butterfly sitting on the flowering head of some Ivy with its wings closed, showing off the camouflaged underside pattern. The small white mark that can be seen within the brown hues is the reason why this Butterfly gained its unusual name: because the marking looks just like a comma!
