Th’ Iron Donger over Rochdale canal
“Th’ Iron Donger” cast iron railway bridge – it is in fact two bridges side-by-side – stands on the boundaries of Chadderton and Middleton in Manchester, UK. Its cast iron span has straddled the Rochdale canal since its completion in 1863 and although it has been decommissioned many years ago, the blue and white graffitied behemoth still stands in place, casting its dark, post-industrial shadow onto anyone passing on the towpath below…
