Let’s go Winberry picking

Two ramblers take a break from walking at the base of Clougha Pike in Lancaster and pick themselves some ripe Winberries instead. A member of the Blueberry Vaccinium family, the small and hardy Winberry has a large variety of names across the world – such as the Huckleberry in the USA – but in the UK is referred to as the Winberry-Whinberry, Wimberry-Whimberry, Whynberry, Bilberry, Blaeberry and Whortleberry, to name but a few of its colloquial, regional names.

If you’ve never tried them, a hot pie with these purple berries cooked inside is a slice of heaven!
